Art: 21 History Reaction

From the three artists in the video, i was more interested in Glenn Ligon. This artist uses the African American history in his work. In fact, he uses texts from books written by African American writers. Since his mom bought books for him, he has read many books. He incorporates the things he reads directly in his artwork. In addition, he stopped writing his own thoughts because it is limited and he was interested in what other people say. He also started using lights in his work although it breaks the law of physics because there is no black light. Furthermore, he draws like a child since he is inspired by Picasso. He says his intention to include texts in his paint is to slow the reader down, so he/she can have a pause in this pretty fast world. Glenn Ligon describes what America is in all his work.
